To manufacture high-quality food products we must have uninterrupted access to many different ingredients from around the world. At the same time, we realise that demand for basic ingredients can put huge pressure on natural ecosystems and affect the sustainable development of local communities. That is why we are committed to responsible sourcing.
At Puratos, we know that responsible sourcing is key to ethical trading and that consumers are right to be concerned about where their food comes from, how it is produced, and how it is sourced. As a result, we make sure that we collaborate and keep an open dialogue with the people involved in our supply chain.
As a company that tries to source responsibly at all times, we have two main objectives:
Cacao-Trace is Puratos' sustainable cocoa programme, dedicated to working directly with farmers to secure sustainable long-term cocoa production. The programme has its own certification process and is audited every year by an independent third party. It is currently operating in Vietnam and the Ivory Coast and soon in more countries in West Africa and South-East Asia.
Puratos is part of SEDEX, the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange, an NGO dedicated to making global supply chains more responsible and ethical.
Puratos is a member of the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the only global system for the certification of sustainable palm oil. Today we have twenty RSPO-certified sites across Europe, USA and Australia, and plan to include others in the near future.
